What should I invest in?

When it comes to wealth accumulation through investment, most people would ask, “what should I invest in?”

For me, I invest in anything that has a good ROI (returns on investment). You might say… of course…. who doesn’t, right? But, what is good ROI?

My answer might disappoint some.

If there’s one thing anyone wants to start investing in, my suggestion is to always invest in yourself.

Over the years, I find that investing in yourself pays the highest dividends, and here’s why:

  • The knowledge you gained, the system/habits you adopt, can be used over and over again, and cannot be easily lost.
  • When you are clear with your intentions and motivations (that is, having a strong “why”), you won’t be easily swayed by the noises out there.
  • You won’t second-guess the other parties’ intentions when you made a purchase, and you will have lesser chance of regrets.
  • Moreover, knowledge you gained / skills you learned, can be stacked up on top of the other knowledge/skills you had. A new skillset, now an asset, can then be monetised. Somehow, this reminds me of THE NANTA Kitchen Show (It’s a South Korean theatrical, non-verbal, comedy show set in a kitchen.)

Investment in yourself, is the start of building wealth. The reason you “invest” in something is because you want to yield “good results”. And it’s not just in money. According to Robin Sharma, there are 7 forms of wealth. They are:

  • inner wealth (spiritual)
  • physical health
  • family wealth
  • social wealth (friends)
  • career wealth (job fulfilment)
  • economic wealth (finances)
  • and adventure wealth (fun)

Yes, wealth is not about just having the money. Whenever you want to grow your money, you will want to grow the other aspects of your life. Everything has to be in balanced. With these different forms of wealth levelling up at the same pace, you can then achieve a “world-class”, fulfilling life.

Pause here. Am I making sense?
(Sometimes, I get told my thinking is weird.)

Maybe you don’t have an ambitious goal to be a “world-class” person. But I think everyone craves for and deserves a fulfilling life. If you have been working so hard, why wouldn’t you at least deserve a fulfilling life?
